KENTUCKY!

day3

As I sit in a little coffee shop in downtown Shelbyville, Kentucky I think about how I got here; how we got here…

The Dead River Company quickly packed our nic-nacs into sacks early Thursday morning and hopped into our yet unnamed band ambulence fleeing the summer heat quickly approaching the concrete jungle of Brooklyn. As we turned the bend off the bridge and out of New York, we found ourselves emerging from a giant black cloud and into sun rays of gold. We were determined to drive the 1.2 million miles ahead of us without food, bathroom breaks or sleep, which we accomplished through sheer will power, arriving at our new home in a mere 13 hours. We pulled onto Moody Pike, the street on which lay our destination and drove past castles of glass and chrome. Finally, a right into our driveway, a quick search for the key and down the winding path taking us where it willed us to be.

The Dead River Company soon found ourselves surrounded by a field of fireflies, shimmering in the tall grasses like the reflections of the moon on the ocean at night. We pull our rescue wagon up to the house and let ourselves in. We were greeted by a beautiful, fully furnished home, six thousand years old. As we explored the secret rooms and climed into the depths of the house, we discovered musical instruments; a lot of musical instruments, records; a lot of records, artwork; a lot of artwork.

An indiscribable feeling came over each of six members of the Dead River Company. Our feet began tapping, our arms whailing and out of our mouths came sweet sweet song.

It is now our day 3 of our excursion. While our hiatus from Brooklyn will be only for the summer months, this is not the end of our adventure.

…To Be Continued.

Brooklyn Grange and A few Important Items.

We had fun at the Brooklyn Grange May Day Party this weekend. They are the largest urban farm in Brooklyn right now and trying to get a bigger space up in Long Island City, Queens. Show your support and donate to them if you can or come out to their next party.

It was an honor to be supporting such an awesome cause.

A few items are on the Agenda:

1. We are picking up our  government issued giant ghostbuster’s van today. It is fully equipped with all your ghost busting gear including an external p.a. system, sirens, creepy white exterior and shag rugs. If you would like a ride, please take off all your clothes and you know who you’re gonna call.
2. We are moving to Kentucky for the summer. We will be recording music, writing new songs, perfecting old ones, making you t-shirts and hopefully some fun videos. Be sure to check out our website frequently to see what we are up to.
3. We have one last show before we go. If you ever want to see us again, come give us the sendoff of a lifetime to let us know we are loved the more loved we feel, the sooner we will return. May 15th at Pete’s Candy Store. More to come on that one.
4. Congratulations to our very own Ross Bollinger for Graduating College.

s.jpg omewhere amidst the forest bracken, a hedgehog stops in its tracks; a bird stutters its lovelorn call; a worm suspends its eternal slither, and all is silent. Yet an ominous rumbling begins to permeate the earth, rising, rising, and finally breaking forth into a galloping stampede of bearded forest mutants. Jim Carrey-like laughter fills the air and all know…

Dear Philadelphia,

The tips of all of our red markers grow dull and weary as the strain put on them, by the anxiously awaiting digits of your very own Dead River Companymen, exponentially increases each day as we mark the time off the calender until this very Friday March 26th. What happens then you may ask? Fear not, for they shall be no disaster, no new war, and no pestilence; no, this anticipation rises out from the incredible emotions that the sights, sounds and people of Philadelphia always seems to rouse from our hearts. Thats right, The Dead River Company Live at the Raven Lounge, 1718 Sansom Street from 8-9 this Friday. We can think of no better way to express our emotions then a poem that Rocky J wrote with Edgar Allan Poe back in 1845, entitled “The Raven”

poe1

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,

Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten soul,

My head nodded, nearly rocking, suddenly there came a knocking,

Suddenly my mood was shocking, rocking to this rock and roll.

And that rock, never swaying, never fraying, still is playing

On the pallid bust of Bonham just above my chamber door;

And his beats have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,

And the spotlight o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;

And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor

Shall be lifted - nevermore!

See you Friday,

The Dead River Company

PS. We are moving to Kentucky this summer so catch us while you can! (more to come on that big news!)

Who is in the hopsital this week?

OH PEYTON!

Our very own Manglin’ Janglin’ Pedro has been rendered broken by a real live outserspace robot. An evil one. No good evil sonofabitch.

He has an impressively broken jaw and is awaiting surgery. Worry not! We are keeping him in good spirits and he is actively impressing the nurses with his high hospital fashion.

So you missed our beach party?

“A beach party?” you ask. Yes, that is right. A beach party. You probably missed it. Becuase otherwise you wouldn’t be thinking “What will they come up with next?”

Fear not good folk! We have one last night at our Pete’s Candy Store February Residency!

Wednesday Night. 10pm. Free. Be There. Bring your friends. Throw a snowball goddammit.

You’ll just have to come to see how crazy our show gets. Or check back in a week or so and find out you missed something absolutely balls out amazing.
